When India’s batsmen chased down 165 and won the game by seven wickets, all eyes were on Rohit Sharma’s post-match presentation, when he gave an update on the severity of the injury and whether it makes him questionable for the remainder of the series—and probably more.
On Tuesday, India’s skipper Rohit had a serious injury scare when he had to be taken off the field after retiring hurt while batting.
Before tearing a muscle, Rohit was batting on 11 off 5 balls and had smashed a six and a four. The video caught Indian physio Kamlesh Jain sprinting onto the field as Rohit was about to strike, and after a protracted conversation, the captain went off holding his back. When Rohit inside-edged the third ball of the over for four, it appeared as though he had injured his back. To Alzarri Joseph, Rohit danced down the pitch.
A quick update on Rohit’s injury from the BCCI revealed that it was in reality a back spasm. “Team India captain Rohit Sharma has a back spasm. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his progress,” it tweeted.
‘Hopefully, it should be okay: Rohit Sharma
However, all eyes were on the post-match presentation, where Rohit finally gave an update on the extent of the injury and if it puts him in doubt for the remainder of the series… and probably more. India hitters made merry in their pursuit of 165 and won the match by seven wickets.
He must have heard a collective sigh of relief across the nation when he said: “At the moment, it’s okay. We’ve got a few days till the next game, hopefully, it should be okay.”
India won the series 2-1 as Rohit watched from the locker room. As India’s Suryakumar Yadav played an incredible knock and reached 50 runs, the idea of starting with him worked. His 76 off 44 balls, which included eight fours and four sixes, helped India to a convincing victory. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer also played solid innings.
