Before today, Kohli had last scored an international century in November 2019. Kohli scored last scored a test century in November 2019 at Eden Gardens against Bangladesh and ODI century in August 2019 at Queen’s Park Oval against West Indies. Virat Kohli’s international century has come exactly after 2 years, 9 months, and 16 days. This was Kohli’s first T20I ton.
Virat Kohli has now become the 4th India National Cricket Team batter to smash a century in all three formats of the game after Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
Kohli took 522 innings to complete the 71 centuries milestone and he has become the fastest player in the history of the game to achieve this feat. Legendary batters Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting had smashed their 71st international century in 523 and 652 innings respectively.
Meanwhile, Kohli looked at his absolute best in the match against Afghanistan and completed his half-century off 32 balls. He accelerated exceptionally well in the match against a good Afghanistan bowling unit and completed his century off 53 balls.
Overall, he scored 122 runs off 61 balls, including 12 fours and 6 sixes, and he batted with a strike rate of 200. Kohli has now become the highest run-getter in the ongoing Asia Cup. Also, India were able to post 212/2 on the board after losing the toss and batting first.
