Dasun Shanaka’s team defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the final match of the Asia Cup 2022, played at the International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday. Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup for the sixth time.
After losing the toss, Sri Lanka batted first, scoring 170-6 in 20 overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa played a brilliant innings, scoring an unbeaten 71 off 45 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Wanindu Hasaranga made a crucial partnership with Rajapaksa and scored 36 runs in 21 balls. The in-form opener, Kushal Mendis was dismissed for a golden duck. Haris Rauf led the Pakistan bowling attack with 3 wickets.
Pakistan were bowled out for 147 runs in 20 overs in the run chase. Mohammad Rizwan scored 55 runs off 49 balls and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 32 runs. Pramod Madushan played a vital role in Sri Lanka’s victory by taking 4 wickets. Right-arm leg spinner Hasranga picked up 3 wickets. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was picked as the Man of the Match for his 71 runs.
