IND vs PAK: Asian Cricket Council Must Explain This... - Rashid Latif Is Upset That Pakistan's Name Isn't On The Asia Cup 2023 Kits

Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif wasn’t happy with the absence of the host nation’s name on Asia Cup 2023 jerseys. He fumed at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) over the development and said that they needed to explain the reason behind this.

Although the Asia Cup 2023 is played in a hybrid model, Pakistan is the host of the tournament. Out of 13 games, 9 matches will be played in Sri Lanka whereas 4 games will take place in Pakistan. The tournament so far is going smooth but one thing has caught the attention of many.

The name of the host nation, Pakistan, isn’t written on the jerseys of the teams. This has rigged a lot of controversy as many fans and experts have raised concerns over the same. In big tournaments usually, the name of the host nation is printed behind the logo.

The controversy got even more heated when it was noticed that ‘India’ has been written on Pakistan’s jersey for the ICC World Cup 2023. But with no signs of even Pakistan or Sri Lanka on the Asia Cup 2023 jerseys, it remains a big question why the name isn’t there.

Rashid Latif called it unacceptable and ACC should explain that Asia Cup is their property.

As quoted by NDTV Sports, he explained: “This is unacceptable and it is the Asian Cricket Council which must explain this oversight since the Asia Cup is their property.”

Mohsin Khan also wasn’t amazed by the absence of the host’s name on the Asia Cup jerseys. He lashed out at the BCCI, saying that they would’ve felt embarrassed to have Pakistan’s name on kits.

He explained: “Makes no sense at all. Then why has the ACC given the host country’s name on the logos for their Asian Emerging Nations Cup or their Asian under-16 event held in July in Malaysia?

“Given the current scenario between the two countries perhaps the BCCI official felt it would be embarrassing for the Indian team players to wear kits with the name of Pakistan on the official Asia Cup logo.”

Asia Cup 2023 has seen two games so far taking place. The next game of the tournament will be played between India and Pakistan on 2nd September in Kandy.
