Former Indian cricketer Karsan Gharvi opened up about how his pacer Jasprit Bumrah prepared for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. He revealed that the fast bowler used to bowl 10-14 overs at NCA as he had ICC World Cup 2023.

After missing 11 months of cricket, Jasprit Bumrah has finally made a return to cricket. The pacer bowler captained the Indian team in the recently concluded T20I series against Ireland and performed reasonably well in the two games, picking wickets as well as keeping up his pace.

Jasprit Bumrah put in the hard yards in the nets at NCA as he was preparing for his comeback. The fast bowler underwent various drills and bowled quite a few overs under his belt. He will be a vital cog in the wheel for India in the Asia Cup 2023. His focus will be first on the game against Pakistan on 2nd September.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled 4 overs each in the T20I series against Ireland but a bigger challenge awaits from him as ODI are completely different from T20s. The pacer will be bowling 10 overs in each game and all the eyes will be on him on how he approaches the game.

Karsan Gharvi lauded BCCI and NCA for handling players and highlighted how they made sure that Jasprit Bumrah got completely fit before making a return. Speaking to Times now, he explained:

“I think the BCCI and the NCA are doing extremely well it depends on the players individually you know how much workload they can take and once they go for a rehab programming and just come out in from there and immediately you play a bigger tournament in which workload is little more you are bound to get niggles or injuries somewhere along the line.

“So first of all they have to make sure they are more than 100 percent fit after the rehab and everything. See what like Bumrah, I know right now he is bowling in Ireland. He already played two matches and in both the matches he picked up wickets.”

IND vs PAK: I think he will be a key fast bowler for India in the World Cup – Karsan Gharvi On Jasprit Bumrah

Karsan Gharvi added that Jasprit Bumrah had the World Cup in mind and he was adamant to bowl 10 overs. He believes that the pacer will be key for India.

He elaborated: “But you know when he was in rehab doing programming at NCA in Banglore, it is not that he was bowling only four overs, he was bowling 10 overs, 14 overs along with Twenty 20 he was practising even for the World Cup also ‘ki mujhe world cup me 10 over daalna padega, to das ki jagah woh 14 over daalta tha’, ( that he need to bowl 10 overs in the World Cup.

“So he used to bowl 14 overs), know he can sustain, he go on without getting injuries and since you know what I have seen in him in Ireland, I think he has cut short his run-up also and that is a good thing actually and the way he is bowling I think he will be a key fast bowler for India in the World Cup.”

Jasprit Bumrah will be seen in action when India will open their campaign against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023 on 2nd September.
