Former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth talked about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 as well as the ICC World Cup 2023. He said that the pacer knows what exactly he needs to do and to keep up the pace he needs to get stronger every single day.

After missing 11 months of cricket, Jasprit Bumrah has finally made a return to cricket. The pacer bowler captained the Indian team in the recently concluded T20I series against Ireland and performed reasonably well in the two games, picking wickets as well as keeping up his pace.

But there are still a lot of concerns over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, especially him being injury-prone. The fast bowler will now be seen in the ODI format, where he will be bowling 10 overs in a game. He is part of the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023 and all the eyes will be on him on how he approaches the game.

S Sreesanth was asked how Jasprit Bumrah without compromising on his pace and venom could perform at the level he was doing before the injury. Replying to this, he said that the fast bowler will need a lot of flexibility rather than strength.

He added that Jasprit Bumrah needs to balanced fitness routine and he hoped that the Premier fast bowler will remain injury-free.

Speaking to News 18, he explained: “Bumrah has been an excellent bowler. He’s been world number one and he knows exactly what to do. I will just say, yes, that (bowling) action is awkward, but that is what is getting (him) wickets. It’s just a matter of getting stronger every single day, and a lot of flexibility (exercise), rather than just the strength.

“You have to have a balanced fitness routine rather than just going hard at the gym, it should be balanced. I’m sure he’s got the best of the physio, the best of doctors and nutritionists around and it’s just a matter of time (he will be back at his best). I wish him all the best because injuries are part and parcel of a fast bowler’s life especially when you’re playing in subcontinent conditions.”

S Sreesanth further went on to say that Jasprit Bumrah needs to keep his mindset strong and he’s confident that him being the world-class bowler will be at his best. He added that the pacer will get better with every single day.

He elaborated: “…it’s a matter of belief system, the mindset. Don’t worry about the injuries, but make sure you prevent them by doing a balanced routine. And I’m sure Bumrah, being the world-class bowler he is and he will always be, we all should just back him up and be there for him, whatever it is, be with him mentally and spiritually. I’m sure physically he will just get better every single day.”

Jasprit Bumrah will be seen in action when India will open their campaign against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023 on 2nd September.
