IND vs PAK: Pakistan Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Speaks On Upcoming India-Pakistan Match, Says 'Making A Statement Against Quality Teams Is Important'

Former South African pacer and current Pakistan bowling coach, Morne Morkel spoke on the India-Pakistan Super Fours match and said that making a statement against big teams like India is important before the match.

While speaking in a video shared by Pakistan Cricket on their social media account, Morne Morkel started by saying that it is his pleasure to work with the Pakistani bowlers.

Morkel added that to find success one has to be focused and work hard to achieve the goals. The former Proteas star player stated that the squad is having fun and that is why they are able to win games.

Morne Morkel revealed that before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, Babar Azam-led Pakistan identified goals that the Men in Green want to achieve in the upcoming days.

The Pakistani bowling coach added that the team’s main focus is to win the prestigious tournament, ODI World Cup 2023 which will take place in India.

“For me it’s a pleasure to work with these guys. It’s important to keep on focusing and working hard on the basics. We’re having a lot of fun and that’s why we’re executing as well. We sat down before the Asia Cup and identified certain goals that we want to achieve. World Cup is the main goal we’re focusing on. We’re focused on arriving in India with everyone in a good space. Making a statement against quality teams is important,” Morkel said.

Morne Morkel who is the bowling coach of Pakistan and the person who trains quality pacers said that he makes sure to maintain a high standard while practising.

Morkel praised Shaheen Afridi and said that his opening spell against India on Saturday (September 2nd) was incredible.

“I just make sure that the guys keep that high standard during training, and with the skills that they’ve got, it makes my job easier. Individually, they’ve all stepped up. Rauf bowled beautifully against Bangladesh in tough conditions. Shaheen’s opening spell against India was incredible. Naseem plays the supporting role from the other end. So, as a core bowling unit we’re doing really well,” he added.

Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma started the first inning of the Super Fours match between India and Pakistan after Babar Azam won the toss and chose to bowl first.
