Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel has said that Pakistan players are match-winners and they know how to make comebacks. Morne Morkel also believes that Pakistan will pull off a victory against Sri Lanka in their next match of Asia Cup 2023.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face each other in a do-or-die clash in Asia Cup 2023. PAK vs SL game will be played on Thursday (September 14). The venue of the encounter is R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The winner of the match will earn a place in Asia Cup 2023 final against India.
Pakistan Players Are All Match-Winners And Experienced Players: Morne Morkel
During the pre-match press conference, Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel said that Pakistan players are match-winners and experienced players.
“The conditions are spin-friendly and I think our spinners are working really hard at the moment. They will be the first to put up their hands when it is needed. They are all match-winners and experienced players. They know how to make comebacks,” ANI quoted Morkel as saying.
Naseem Shah’s Absence Is A Big Blow: Morne Morkel
Morne Morkel, a former South Africa pacer, also said that Naseem Shah’s absence is a big blow for his team. Shah has been ruled out of the squad due to a niggle.
“Obviously, it is a big blow. It is unfortunate that he picked some little niggles. But what a fantastic opportunity for the guys you know coming in. After going down against India, it’s a must-win game for us tomorrow. I’m quite excited to see new guys stepping in and showing some character,” Morkel further said.
Pacer Haris Rauf is also ruled out of Asia Cup 2023 due to injury. In the super four round of Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the opening game. Later, they lost against India by a huge margin of 228 runs in the previous match. Now, they will face Sri Lanka.
Talking about Sri Lanka, the team defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs in their first match of the Super Four round. In their previous game, the Dasun Shanaka-led side lost to India by 41 runs. Sri Lanka is the defending champion of Asia Cup 2023.
