Dinesh Karthik silenced all the outside noise by wrapping up the match against Australia in the 2nd T20I match. The designated finisher scored 10 runs in 2 balls to end the match. The right-handed batter was calm in his approach as scoring 9 runs in 6 balls is not an easy task.
The hosts won the match by 6 wickets and made a statement that they are not done yet. Aussies would be amazed by seeing the hitting prowess of Dinesh Karthik as hitting from ball 1 is not everyone’s cup of tea. Finally, it looks like the Men in Blue are clicking and it won’t be wrong to say that these are alarming signs for the other nations.
Dinesh Karthik on Hardik Pandya
Dinesh Karthik was asked bout Hardik Pandya. “We needed only four bowlers to finish the eight overs. But we actually had five options. That’s the luxury of having a world-class all-rounder like Hardik Pandya. When Hardik Pandya is in the playing XI, it gives you the option to play an extra batter or extra bowler; that’s what makes him so special. There are a very few cricketers in world cricket who can balance the side out. That’s where we have been blessed, and if he does well, it is always great for Indian cricket.”
Spot on Captaincy by Rohit Sharma
The match was a 8 over contest where first 3 overs were power-play overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma made sure that Axar Patel bowls one over in the power-play as he is the strike bowler. The risk paid off as Axar got rid of Maxwell and in his next over he dismissed Tim David. Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl out Axar proved to be a masterstroke.
The Aussies however scored 90 runs but 10 more runs could have been the difference in the end as chasing 12 runs per over is not an easy task. Rohit Sharma was criticized for being furious and aggressive but we should not forget that this is part & parcel of the game. It would be interesting to see whether Men in Blue would continue their domination as India would be aware that Aussies would be ready for a staggering comeback.
