Defending the target, Indian pace bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Harshal Patel didn’t have a good outing in the powerplay overs as Team Australia were at 60/1 after the first 6 overs.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel, who picked wickets of Aaron Finch, Cameron Green and Josh Inglis, bowled brilliantly and ended his spell with figures of 4-0-17-3. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also had a pretty bad day as he conceded runs at an economy of 12.60.

India’s main pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel bowled poorly in the death overs and overall they conceded 52 and 49 runs respectively.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, India captain Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment over the performance of the bowling unit of the team and said that defending a target of over 200 is always a good total to defend, but the bowlers didn’t perform well. Rohit Sharma was pleased with the performance of the batters, however, he admitted that the players were not good on the field. He elaborated:

“I don’t think we bowled well. 200 is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances on the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were quite not there. There are things we need to look at, but it was a great game for us to understand what went wrong.”

India National Cricket Team captain also lauded Australia batters for playing extraordinary shots. Rohit Sharma said:

“We know this is a high-scoring ground. You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well. They played some extra-ordinary shots. If I was in that changing room, I would expect to chase that total. You can back yourself to get 60 runs in the final 4 overs.”

Rohit Sharma signed off by praising Hardik Pandya for his stellar knock and added that they will have to look at the bowling department before the next game. He said:

“We were not able to take their wicket. That was the turning point, if we would have taken a wickets, things would have been different. You can’t score 200 every day, you need to bat well. Hardik batted really well to get us there. We need to look at our bowling before the next game.”
