Sourav Ganguly, the current president of the BCCI and a former captain of India, recently described Virat Kohli as better and more skilled than himself in a podcast. The video of the conversation was shared on a YouTube channel called TRS Clips.
Kohli smashed a century for the first time since 2019 as he opened the innings in the game against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup on Thursday.
Virat Kohli, the star batsman for Team India, made an incredible comeback to run-scoring in the 2022 Asia Cup. In five matches of the continental tournament this year, Kohli, who took more than a month off from the sport after a prolonged stretch of low-scoring games, smashed a century and two half-centuries. By the end of India’s participation in the competition, Kohli had scored the most runs overall.
In the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who was rested for the game, Kohli started the innings alongside KL Rahul on Thursday. The former Indian captain shared a 119-run first wicket stand with stand-in skipper Rahul Dravid, reaching his century with a six in the 19th over of India’s innings. Kohli finally finished undefeated on 122 off 61 balls, surpassing the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in T20I innings.
I think Virat Kohli is more skilful than I’m: Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly was asked about the comparison of his and Virat’s aggressiveness. The former stated,
“The comparison should be made in terms of player skill. He appears to be more skilled than I am. We played in different generations and played a lot of cricket.”
“I played in my generation, and he will probably play more games than I did. I currently have more playing time than he does, but he will catch up. He is incredible.”
After over 1000 days, Kohli scored a ton in international cricket. His 122* off 61 balls against Afghanistan was also the highest-ever individual score in T20I cricket by an Indian.
