Ashish Nehra, a former cricketer, praised Team India captain Rohit Sharma for his explosive performance against Australia in the second Twenty20 International on September 23 in Nagpur.

He discussed how the Australian bowlers misjudged their lengths and frequently sent short-pitched deliveries to Sharma during a chat on Cricbuzz. He suggested that perhaps it was not a strategy against the batter, but rather a case of them missing their lengths.

In the first over of India’s attempt to score runs, the right-handed hitter famously struck Josh Hazlewood for two sixes. Nehra brought up the fact that Sharma was able to go past the ropes even when the bowler produced a quality delivery.

“The bowlers don’t try to bowl short to Rohit Sharma, it happens by mistake. Josh Hazlewood was hit for three sixes in the first over. The first of the three was a very good delivery, but Rohit still managed to send it over the ropes. The others were bad balls, and he capitalized. It is his favourite shot.”

RP Singh analyses Rohit Sharma’s performance:

RP Singh stated that while Rohit Sharma had positive intent right on, he did not rely on slogging. He recommended that the batter used proper cricketing shots throughout his innings, effectively opposing the bowlers by targeting the right places.

He emphasized how Rohit is at ease with short balls and prefers to use an offensive shot against them.

“Rohit Sharma didn’t just look to slog blindly but played good cricketing shots. He planned his innings well, targeting the right bowlers. He waits for the short-pitched ball and hits it beautifully. These are signs that he is in great touch. He played how a captain should have,” Singh stated.

In a shortened eight-over contest, Rohit led the Men in Blue to an important six-wicket victory with his unbeaten innings of 46 off 20 balls while chasing a target of 91. He received the Player of the Match award for his outstanding batting performance.

India has now tied the three-match series with the victory, making it a 1-1 tie. On Sunday, September 25, the third and final game of the series will take place in Hyderabad, where the two cricketing titans will next be seen in action.
