The India vs Australia 2022 T20I series starts with the first T20I in Mohali on September 20. The next two games will be played on September 23 (Nagpur) and September 25 (Hyderabad). Both India and Australia will face each other in a T20I match after almost one and a half years. The two teams last faced each other in a T20I series in December 2020.
The BCCI announced a 16-member Indian squad with Mohammed Shami ruled out of the series due to covid. Umesh Yadav has been named as his replacement. The veteran pacer has returned to India’s T20I side for the first time since 2018. Ravindra Jadeja is also not a part of this squad after his knee surgery. He will miss the T20 World Cup as well due to his rehab.

Rohit Sharma (C)

Rohit found some form in the Asia Cup and needs to cash in in this upcoming T20I series against Australia. He will be one of the designated openers in the side.
KL Rahul

There has been a lot of debate as to who should open with Rohit. At least for the first ODI Rahul should be the one opening with Rohit. he also found form in the Asia Cup and needs to be consistent now.
Virat Kohli

The former Indian skipper can slot in at three. Kohli broke the deadlock for his 71st ton and looks in good form before the series. The debate of Kohli opening or batting at number three is still on.
Suryakumar Yadav

Yadav himself admitted recently that number four is his best batting position. He also has the best strike rate among all the current Indian batters.
Rishabh Pant (WK)

Pant can slot in at five. The management can try playing him and Dinesh Karthik together in the playing Xi in the first game.
Hardik Pandya

Pandya can slot in at six. He is another Indian batter who found form recently in the Asia Cup. He will be the third seamer in the playing XI.
Dinesh Karthik

Karthik can slot in at seven as the specialist finisher. He was included in the side to play a specific role. It will be interesting to see how he responds.
Axar Patel

The left-arm spinner can slot in at eight as the second all-rounder. Both Axar and Hardik are capable of contributing big with bat and ball.
Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah will return as the lead pacer in the playing XI. He last played for Inda in the England tour and will be looking forward to making a comeback.
Harshal Patel

Another comeback man Hardhal Patel should be the second seamer in the playing XI. He too is making a comeback after an injury. This will also mean that Bhuvneshwar Kumar might sit out for the first T20I.
Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal will conclude India’s playing XI as the specialist leg spinner. He will also be the lead spinner for India heading into the T20 World Cup 2022.
