IND vs AUS: Dinesh Karthik Gives Captaincy Warning To Rohit Sharma Ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup

Rohit Sharma will be under pressure when he captains India at home during the upcoming ODI World Cup. Veteran Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik predicts that the team would need to perform above and beyond in order to avoid having Rohit fired.

Since being eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup in the semi-finals, India has been captained by Rohit Sharma in ODIs and Hardik Pandya in T20Is.

In preparation for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Hardik Pandya is now in charge of the T20I team while Rohit is on vacation. After the World Cup in Australia last year, Hardik has been captaining the T20I team, but he is not the official full-time leader. If India does not perform particularly well at the ODI World Cup, according to Dinesh Karthik, the team may decide to use a divided captaincy.

“If the case presents itself, why not? But right now, it is not right for me to say this for two reasons. One, India is only playing three T20s after this until the 2023 World Cup, they face the West Indies after the IPL. Once that tournament is done, I think we will know exactly where things stand,” said Dinesh Karthik on Cricbuzz.

“I do believe that Hardik has done a phenomenal job”: Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik stated that irrespective of what occurred, Pandya did an excellent job guiding the squad. The all-rounder has led India in nine T20Is, winning six of them. Their defeat against New Zealand in the opening T20I on Friday was their second under Pandya.

“For the moment, I do believe that Hardik has done a phenomenal job. A case in point is the T20 that was played against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. That was a great game. Stopping Sri Lanka for 160 was a terrific effort on a day where there was little dew. He showed his captaincy prowess there,” said Dinesh Karthik.

The Icc world cup 2023 schedule begins on October 10, 2023, and concludes on November 26, 2023.
