The highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to commence on 9th February. Australia is set to play Test Series in India after 2017 where they lost the Test Series by 1-2. Hanuma Vihari, the unsung hero of the 2020-21 Australia Test Series has been missing from the setup.

Hanuma Vihari can be seen playing in Ranji Trophy for his team Andhra Pradesh. Recently he batted left-handed batter after getting hit on his right-hand wrist against Madhya Pradesh where Avesh Khan bowled a nasty delivery. Vihari hasn’t represented India since the 5th Test Match against England in 2022.

Aakash Chopra On Hanuma Vihari

Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his YouTube channel and raised questions over Hanuma Vihari’s non-selection.

“Hanuma Vihari batted left-handed with a fractured hand in both innings, and played shots with just one hand. It is incredible what Hanuma Vihari is doing.

“He did it in Sydney as well, took balls on his chest and kept his career almost on the line. I am a little disappointed that he has completely fallen out of favour after that,” said Aakash Chopra.

“We have not given him too many opportunities and now it seems a temporary or permanent stop has been put on his career because his name is not coming at all.

“What you are doing will be written in golden letters, that how you put your body on the line and how you can still contribute for India and his state team. Hanuma Vihari – you are an inspiration,” he added.

Hanuma Vihari an Asset

As mentioned by Aakash Chopra, Hanuma Vihari is an asset. It won’t be wrong to say that Vihari is a tailor made batter for Test Cricket just like Legendary VVS Laxman who could stick to the crease and play long and effective innings for the team.

The Selection panel should consider him for the last 2 Test matches against Australia. With India in a race to qualify for World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final, India must apply horses for courses. It would be interesting to see how India fare in tricky conditions of Nagpur where it is assumed that it would be a rank turner.
