Australia National Cricket Team head coach Andrew McDonald has stated that the young fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green has made ‘significant’ progress in his injury recovery.

Cameron Green, who is a key member of the Australian setup, has been struggling with a finger injury. He sustained a fracture to his right index finger during the second Test against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last December.

Green was cleared to train shortly before leaving for the tour and he has started bowling and batting with a hard ball in the nets. However, it’s unlikely that he will bowl in the first Test if he plays.

Speaking to reporters, Andrew McDonald said that he has been surprised by Green’s recovery progress and that the all-rounder can still make the playing XI for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 opener in Nagpur.

“He’s made some significant steps forward in the last couple of days, probably to my surprise, so there’s still an outside chance that everything going well he might be on the team sheet,” McDonald told reporters in Alur on Saturday, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“I wouldn’t say he was in discomfort with his bowling, one of the deliveries jarred the bottom of the bat and that can create discomfort for anyone but there’s a little bit of awareness around that finger.”

He’s really looking forward to the challenge of India – Andrew McDonald on David Warner

McDonald further talked about the veteran opener David Warner and said that the batter is looking forward to the challenge of the Test series in India and is motivated to overturn a mediocre record in the country.

“He’s really looking forward to the challenge of India and it’s been well documented that he hasn’t had the series that he would’ve liked here, and it’s always challenging,” McDonald said.

“But the way that he’s applying himself in his downtime to really landing on a method to take on the Indian spinners, also the quicks, and to have a successful tour…I think you’ll see him fully invigorated, fully invested and fully recharged for the challenge ahead.”
