Robin Uthappa has advised selectors to give Sanju Samson a lengthy rope. Many people believe that Sanju Samson has consistently been overlooked by both the team management and the selection committee.

Kerala’s captain is chosen, plays one or two games, and then is released. He routinely aids his colleagues by offering snacks and additional bats and warming the benches.

Sanju made his India debut at the age of just 21 in a T20I match against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015. In 2021, he received an ODI cap, nearly 6 years after making his debut in the game’s shortest format. Sanju played in 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is between 2015 and 2023. He is currently 28 years old.

He last participated in an India XI game in a T20I match against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in January of this year. In the first match of the three-match series, which India won by two runs, he was given a chance, but he was benched for the next two games.

“Sanju Samson has not been given a long opportunity”: Robin Uthappa

He was back at the NCA after working with a personal physio in Kochi after missing the T20 and ODI series. As per reports, Samson passed his fitness test. and is prepared to make his way back to the cricket field.

Uthappa said on giving Sanju Samson an opportunity in the Indian squad: “100 percent. There is no question about that. He should be given a long rope. Sanju is a high-quality player with a lot of potentials. He has not been given a long opportunity”

“If you want to use him at No. 3, give him at least 5 opportunities. If you want to use him at No. 5, give him the opportunities at least. But give him a chance. Give him a couple of full series and see how he performs, If he doesn’t do it, then say he is not good enough for this level” Robin Uthappa said.

“If you select him and give him one match and then drop him and then say he hasn’t performed well, it sends a wrong message. It is so hard to get into the Indian side. You feel for someone like Sanju Samson. But you just hope for the kind of opportunities he deserves” Robin Uthappa stated in an interview with TOI.

Sanju’s name hasn’t appeared in the India squads for any of the nine ODIs that have been played since the New Zealand tour.
