Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the upcoming four-match Test series against India, which begins on February 9 due to a freak injury. Maxwell feels disappointed after missing the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and said it would “probably nag” him for the rest of his life.
Glenn Maxwell was part of the Australian team that played Test cricket in India in February 2017. The Pat Cummins-led side have already played five Tests in the subcontinent, winning the Test series in Pakistan and drawing in Sri Lanka in their ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

It’s Nice Getting The Opportunity To Watch Your Teammates Play – Glenn Maxwell
The 34-year-old injured his leg at a friend’s birthday party in November last year. He was ruled out of the action for almost three months, including the ongoing Big Bash League. The national selectors may have picked him for BGT given his experience playing in India, where he scored his maiden Test century.
“Probably will nag at me for the rest of my life,” said Maxwell while doing commentary during a Big Bash League game on Fox Cricket.
“It’s nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they’ve got the squad that’s probably as good as I’ve seen go over to India since I’ve been watching Tests over there, anyway.”
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will take place in Nagpur on February 9. The second test will be held in Delhi (February 17–21), the third in Dharamsala (March 1–5), and the fourth in Ahmedabad (March 9-13).

Hopefully, Get On That Plane For The One-Day Tour Of India – David Hussey
Following the Test series, India will host three ODIs, with the first match starting in Mumbai on March 17. The remaining matches will be played in Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22), respectively. Maxwell is expected to be available for selection in the limited-overs series after missing the Test series.
“He’s not going to make it by the end of the BBL, unfortunately. But he’s very diligent in his return to play with his rehab. He’s been down to the St Kilda Football Club a bit and has been at the Junction Oval with Cricket Victoria,” Melbourne Stars coach David Hussey had told SEN earlier this month.
“I dare say towards the end of January, he may be available or hitting some cricket balls to try and get back to play some state cricket and Shield cricket to hopefully get on that plane for the One-Day tour of India for Australia.”
