IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer’s Replacement At Number 5 For The First Test Picked, This Indian Player Will Fill His Shoes. Aakash Chopra thinks Ravindra Jadeja will be crucial for India in the forthcoming Test series against Australia, particularly in the absence of Rishabh Pant.
The opening two Tests of the four-match series, which begin on February 9 in Nagpur, will include Jadeja in the Indian lineup. Following a knee injury sustained during the Asia Cup the previous year, the all-rounder who plays spin bowling was sidelined.

Aakash Chopra emphasized that Jadeja’s appearance would be crucial in a video posted to his YouTube channel, particularly given Pant’s absence, saying:
“Long period of injury for Ravindra Jadeja. He injured himself while surfing when he fell off the board, rendering him permanently disabled. Every time, we hoped he would return, but he never did. With Rishabh Pant out, Jadeja’s importance within this team increases significantly.”

Jadeja last represented India at the Asia Cup in 2022, and the knee injury he sustained there forced him to miss five months of competitive cricket. He eventually withdrew from the trip to Bangladesh after initially being scheduled to go. Jadeja did not even make the Indian team for the Australia-hosted ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2022.
“Ravindra Jadeja can even bat at No. 5”: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra, a former Indian opener, thinks that Ravindra Jadeja’s availability is crucial for the Indian team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia.
In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Chopra thinks Jadeja can even bat at No. 5, saying: “You’re not sure who you’ll play at No. 5 in Shreyas Iyer’s absence. If you look at Ravindra Jadeja’s statistics as a batter in Test cricket over the last 24 months, both in and out of India, you’ll notice that he can bat at No. 5. He really is that good.”
Ravindra Jadeja has returned to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) to complete his last round of fitness tests. Jadeja’s final Test match was a postponed fifth Test of the series that started in 2021 against England in July 2022.
