The opening pair problem has been a source of worry for the squad. Everyone is debating who player should be Rohit Sharma’s opening partner: KL Rahul or Shubman Gill. With an unbeatable 2-0 lead over Australia, the Indian cricket team has been winning games in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Shubman Gill has been pushed into the playing Eleven by cricket fans and analysts, but the team administration appears to have a different viewpoint. In a recent comment, former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly claimed that there is no harm in letting Gill wait for his time.

Shubman Gill Will Get A Lot Of Opportunities: Sourav Ganguly

Since Shubman Gill has been in such excellent form lately, many believe he should be included in the starting lineup. KL Rahul, who has battled in the first two games, appears to be supported by the team management. Rahul was also relieved of his duties as the team’s vice-captain for the final two Tests. Although Gill has been selected for the ODI and T20I squads because to his success in the limited-overs format,

While appreciating Shubman Gill’s ability, Ganguly remarked that the team’s management had big expectations for him. The message, though, appears to be that Gill must wait for his turn for the time.

“I am sure when his time comes, he will also get a lot of opportunities. I think the selectors, the captain and the coach think of him and rate him very highly. That’s why he is playing ODIs and T20Is, and he has performed as well.

“But at the present moment, perhaps message from team management is that he has to wait.”

India has won both Test matches, but none of the top-order batsmen—with the exception of Rohit Sharma—has scored a fifty. When questioned about the idea of dominant batsmen against spinners, Ganguly said that these are difficult wickets to play on because of their unevenness and the fact that everything favours spinners.

“I don’t think so. These are very tough wickets. I saw in the first two Tests and it’s not easy boss. Playing Ashwin, Jadeja, Lyon and the new guy Todd Murphy, it is never easy with odd ball turning square. There is unevenness, there is everything happening for spinners,” Ganguly said.
