Former Pakistan speedster Sohail Khan has lately hit the headlines after sharing a heated exchange with India’s former captain Virat Kohli during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Another of his comments has just appeared on the internet. Umran Malik, India’s rising pacer maestro, was his aim this time.

Umran is youthful, quick, tireless, and, most importantly, disciplined, based on his experience playing for India.

There have been many fast bowlers from India in the past, but none compare to Umran Malik. Even in Indian cricket, a tall, real tearaway bowler who routinely clocks 150 kph on the speed gun is a rare freak. Umran, who is 25 years old, is a young man who works tirelessly and is highly disciplined given his background playing for India.

Since making his debut in June of last year, Umran has taken 24 wickets at an average of less than 30 in both ODIs and T20Is while playing in 16 matches for India. He may have a slightly higher economy rate in ODIs and T20Is, but from India’s perspective, his ability to take wickets—he has seldom gone wicketless—is his strongest asset.

Sohail Khan, a Pakistani pacer, has offered yet another absurd opinion, this time on Umran, claiming that while the 23-year-old is a bright talent, “bowlers like him” are frequently found in Pakistan’s domestic cricket system.

“I feel this Umran Malik guy is a good bowler. I’ve seen 1-2 matches. He runs fast and has kept other things in check as well. But if you think of fast bowlers with speed in excess of over 150-155 kph, I can count 12-15 players right now who play tape-ball cricket. If you go visit the trails organized by Lahore Qalandars, you’ll find many players,” Sohail said on The Nadir Ali podcast.

“Iske (Umran Malik) jaise toh bohot hain. Domestic cricket bhari padi hai hamaari. (Our domestic setup is stacked with bowlers like Umran Malik). When a bowler succeeds at our domestic level, he is considered a true bowler. Shaheen, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf… are experienced, bowlers. I can think of several names” Sohail Khan Added.

Umran, one of the world’s fastest bowlers, is expected to challenge Shoaib Akhtar’s record for the fastest delivery ever after bowling the fastest delivery by an Indian ever against Sri Lanka at 156 km/h.
