With Australia commanding yet another hour of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad, Rohit Sharma, and team India’s woes only get worse. On a field that offered nothing to the bowlers, Australia, who had resumed Day 2 on 255/4, played out only the second wicketless period of the series (the first being yesterday) to reach a dominant 347/4 at lunch.
When both sides entered the break, Usman Khawaja had hit 150 and Cameron Green was quite close to reaching 100. India had to work hard as Australia blazed ahead and scored 92 runs from 29 overs in the session, punishing them once more for some errant bowling.

Watch: Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Left Frustrated As Australia Dominate India In Fourth Test

Up until lunch, Green and Khawaja had put on 177 runs off 290 deliveries, the greatest partnership of the series. India’s sole meaningful chance came in the final over before lunch when a quick ball from Mohammed Shami squared up Green to remove the outside edge of his bat, giving them some control in an otherwise aimless session.
Virat Kohli was the only person in the cordon as the ball sadly sped through the open second slip and slammed into the boundary board. Khawaja inside-edged a shot off Ravindra Jadeja earlier in the session, but that near call wasn’t quite as precarious as this one.

The expressions revealed that India blew the chance by failing to seize it. Kohli pictured himself at first slip and grabbing the catch while Rohit Sharma, the skipper, was in excruciating pain. Fair enough, the ball wouldn’t have carried even with the presence of a fielder there when it went through. This is the extent of Australia’s success. Only when Shami was bowling and Jadeja got a couple of balls to spin out of the rough did India appear to be in a position to take a wicket.
Australia continues to dominate on this belter of a surface in Ahmedabad, and Umesh Yadav had a horrible day, getting hammered for three boundaries in an over. While Green was the aggressor, trying to make sure the boundaries didn’t dry up, Khawaja appeared to be in perfect control.
India first sought to exert more pressure on Australia throughout the session, but the two sets of batters quickly altered the course of events. Australia, which is consolidating, is on track to surpass India’s 400 in the first innings of the Nagpur Test and post the highest single-inning total of the series.
