Pakistan wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan had a funny moment with star Australian batter Steve Smith on Saturday during the first day of the second Test match at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Australia set a great stage with Usman Khawaja, who was born in Pakistan, scored a marvellous hundred after missing it by three runs in the first Test. The visitors lost the wicket of opener David Warner (36) and sensational batter Marnus Labuschagne for a nought inside 21 overs.

PAK vs AUS: Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith builds a strong partnership against Pakistan

Smith joined forces with Khawaja and the duo took the Australian innings at a different level. They were determined to post a big total and both of them, having the impression of red-ball specialists across the world, proved what they could bring to the table for their team.

Smith scored 72 runs from 214 balls even though he just hit seven boundaries in his sluggish type innings, he ensured he supported Khawaja who was timing the ball with perfection and not taking enough risks.

During the 71st over of the Australian innings, Pakistan spinner Nauman Ali appealed for LBW against Smith after the batter was hit on the pads, however, the ball was pitching outside the leg-stump. Pakistan team was considering taking a review against Smith, during the discussion Rizwan went to the former Australian skipper and placed his hands on his shoulder to consult him for the DRS appeal.

In the end, the hosts didn’t go for the DRS as Smith continued to bat for a long time but was dismissed to Hasan Ali in the 89th over as Faheem Ashraf took a stunning catch, diving in the slip cordon to sent back the Australian batter in the dugout just before the stumps on Day 1.

Australia were 313/4 after 109 overs with Khawaja batting at 146 and Travis Head was at the other end.
