PAK vs AUS: Zahid Mahmood Replaces Mohammad Nawaz For White-Ball Leg Of Australia Series
Pakistan cricket team has confirmed that the leg-spinner, Zahid Mahmood, will be replacing left-arm spinner, Mohammad Nawaz, in the white-ball squad for the series against Australia.
Pakistan will be playing three ODIs and a solitary T20I against the Aussies following the conclusion of the 3-match Test series. They have made one minor change to the limited-overs squad, due to Nawaz being ruled out.
The left-armer hasn’t recovered fully from the foot injury that he sustained during the 7th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Notably, Shadab Khan’s participation is also subject to fitness assessment so Zahid’s inclusion works both ways for the squad.
“Unfortunately Mohammad Nawaz has not recovered fully from the foot injury he suffered during the HBL Pakistan Super League 7. We also need to reassess Shadab Khan’s fitness once he joins the squad before playing him in this high profile series which is very important for us in terms of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League points.”
“Zahid Mehmood has been with the team for the Tests and also featured in the HBL PSL 7 for Islamabad United. We feel he is an adequate replacement in the present situation and can potentially make a contribution to the team if needed,” chief selector, Mohammad Wasim said.
The white-ball team is slated to assemble at the team hotel in Lahore on March 22. They will begin training on March 25, the day the 3rd Test in Lahore is scheduled to conclude.
