Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka has scripted a new record with his outstading half-century in SL vs AUS 3rd T20I. Shanaka has become the first-ever player to score 50-plus runs in a death overs of a T20I chase. The right-handed batsman slammed an unbeaten 54-run knock to hand Sri Lanka victory in the 3rd T20I against Australia.

Sri Lanka defeated the visitors Australia by 4 wickets in the 3rd and final T20I of the ongoing series. Hence, Sri Lanka managed to evade a whitewash in the series. Sri Lanka had already lost the first two games earlier, losing 1st T20I by 10 wickets and 2nd T20I by 3 wickets.

Dasun Shanaka Drives Sri Lanka to Victory With Match-Winning Knock

Dasun Shanaka played a very crucial knock to drive his team to victory in the 3rd T20I. In the 1st innings, Australia set up a powerful total of 176-5. David Warner scored 39 while Marcus Stoinis slammed a quickfire 38 off 23. For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana picked 2 wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga and Praveen Jayawickrama grabbed 1 wicket each.

During the chase, Sri Lanka openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka scored 15 and 27 respectively. One-down Charith Asalanka added 26 runs. However, Sri Lanka lost Bhanuka Rajapaksa for 17 and Kusal Mends for just 6 runs in the middle.

Reaching 98-5 in 13.5 overs in the match, Sri Lanka was on the verge of losing another game. However, Dasun Shanaka changed the fate of his team with his batting. He arrived at the crease when the team railed at 98-5 in 13.5 overs.

Then, Shanaka slammed 5 fours and 4 sixes to come up with an unbeaten 54. In the final over, Sri Lanka needed 19 runs to win off Kane Richardson’s over. However, Shanaka slammed 2 fours and 1 six to grab victory for his team.

Dasun Shanaka was also awarded man of the match for his match-winning knock. However, Australia managed to win the series 2-1. Aaron Finch earned the player of the series award. Now, Sri Lanka and Australia will lock horns in a five-match ODI series. The SL vs AUS 1st ODI takes place on June 14 (Tuesday) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
