Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc will be sitting on the sidelines for the third T20I against Sri Lanka as the left-armer was ruled out due to a left index finger injury.
He may be missing the initial stages of the 5-match ODI series as well since he needed six stitches on the finger while playing in the first T20I in Colombo on Tuesday.
Jhye Richardson was named as the cover for the ODI series. Richardson already replaced Starc in game 2 of the T20I series and ended up with figures of 3/26 in his quota of overs.
Nevertheless, the Aussies will be hoping for a quick recovery from Starc who will continue training with the team. As per ESPNcricinfo, the wound will take at least a week to heal which essentially rules him out of the first ODI on June 14.
Starc is a key player for the Australian Test team which will be playing a 2-match Test series against the Lankans. It is part of the WTC 2021-23 cycle and currently, Pat Cummins and co. lead the way at the top of the points table.
