Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After Sri Lanka vs Australia 2nd Test

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team defeated Australia National Cricket Team by an innings and 39 runs in the second and final Test match of the series to gain 12 crucial ICC World Test Championship points.

With the victory in the second Test against Australia, Sri Lanka managed to draw the two-match Test series at the Galle International Stadium in Galle, having lost the first match by 10 wickets at the same venue.

Earlier, Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. Australia were able to post 364 runs on the board, in their first innings, with the help of incredible centuries by star batters Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. Among bowlers from Sri Lanka, debutant Prabath Jayasuriya performed incredibly well and he bagged a 6-wicket haul.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka batters performed brilliantly, in their first innings. Kusal Mendis scored 85 runs, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne amassed 86 runs, veteran batter Angelo Mathews smashed 52 runs and Kamindu Mendis scored 61 runs.

The top run-getter for Sri Lanka was the 32-year-old Dinesh Chandimal, who played an absolutely stunning knock for his side. He scored an unbeaten 206 runs off 326 balls, including 16 fours and 5 sixes, to help Sri Lanka score 554 runs. Among bowlers from Australia, Mitchell Starc picked up 4 wickets and Mitchell Swepson bagged 3 wickets.

Australia, in their second innings, batted poorly and the no.3 batter Marnus Labuschagne was the only one who was able to score 30 or more runs in the innings.

Sri Lanka debutant Prabath Jayasuriya once again shined and bagged 6 wickets for the second time in the match while Ramesh Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana bagged 2 wickets each to restrict Australia to 151.

The loss in the second Test match against Sri Lanka was the first loss for Australia in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle. Before the second Test match, Australia was at the top spot on the points table with 77.78 percentage points and Sri Lanka was at the 6th spot with 47.62 percentage points.
