It was the first-ever Test win of Bangladesh against New Zealand and the first-ever win against New Zealand in New Zealand across all formats. Also, it was the first away Test win of Bangladesh against a team in the top five of the ICC Rankings.

Meanwhile, in the second Test Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first and the decision turned out to be a bizarre one for the team.

Batting first at the Hagley Oval New Zealand scored 521/6 with the help of exceptional 252 runs by skipper Tom Latham and a century by Devon Conway. Will Young and Tom Blundell were also able to smash the fifties.

Bangladesh in their first innings failed miserably and the top order batting unit faced a collapse. Only Yasir Ali and Nurul Hasan scored good runs for the team and Bangladesh were bowled out for just 126 runs. Kiwi Pacers Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee dominated and shared 10 wickets between them. Also, Boult who bagged a 5-wicket haul became the 4th New Zealand bowler to reach the 300 Test wickets milestone from the country.

New Zealand were able to get the 395 runs first-innings lead with the help of the amazing bowling performance and they enforced the follow-on.

Following-on Bangladesh top order batters performed decently in the second innings but the batters were unable to contribute big runs. However, Litton Das smashed an amazing century but others failed which resulted in Bangladesh getting bowled out for 278 runs and New Zealand won by an innings and 117 runs.
