For South Africa, both Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj picked two wickets each, however, the other bowlers failed to make substantial contributions with the ball. The likes of Kagiso Rabada (1 for 57) and Lungi Ngidi (1 for 75) had a forgettable day at the office. The duo would be looking to make a stronger comeback.

South Africa, in reply to the total, were restricted to 276 runs in the second innings. Kyle Verreynne (21 off 25) and Temba Bavuma (31 off 55) got starts but failed to convert those into big scores. South Africa, at one stage, were reeling at 36 for 3.

Rassie van der Dussen (86 off 98) and David Miller (79 off 57) then stitched a useful partnership and kept the hopes alive for South Africa. However, once they got out, South Africa lost wickets in a cluster and, eventually, fell 38 runs short of the target. Heading into the second match of the series, the hosts would look to make a strong comeback and level the series.
