Big Bash League 2024-2025

The Big Bash League or the BBL is Australia's main club T20 competition and is one of the leading T20 tournaments in the world. The tournament was established by Cricket Australia in the year 2011. The tournament is usually played during the Australian summer from December to February.

The BBL replaced the previous T20 competition named the 'KFC Twenty20 Big Bash'. Since its inaugural season, the BBL has featured eight city-based franchises. In the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, six state teams used to participate.

In 2016/17, it was one of the two T20 cricket leagues, alongside the IPL, to feature amongst the top ten domestic sports leagues in average attendance.

Coming to the BBL team list, the eight teams participating in the competition are - Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, and Sydney Thunder.

Of the eight teams, six teams have won the BBL at least once. The only teams that are yet to lay their hands on the coveted trophy are Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.

Talking about Big Bash League stats and records (BBL stats and records), Perth Scorchers are the most successful side in the history of BBL, having won the tournament five teams so far.

Sydney Sixers have won the competition three times while Brisbane Heat have won it twice. On the other hand, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, and Sydney Thunder have won the Big Bash League once each.

The inaugural edition of the BBL was played in the 2011-12 season. Sydney Sixers won that edition with a win over Perth Scorchers in the final. In the second edition, Perth Scorchers faced defeat in the final again as Brisbane Heat won the BBL.

Perth Scorchers finally won the BBL in the third season by beating Hobart Hurricanes in the final. They went on to defend their title in the 2014-15 season. Sydney Thunder won the 2015-16 edition before Perth Scorchers reclaimed the BBL title in the 2016-17 season.

In the 2017-18 season, Adelaide Strikers won the BBL for the first time before Melbourne Renegades clinched their maiden title in the 2018-19 season. In the 2019-20 season, the Sydney Sixers became the second team after Perth to win the BBL twice.

In 2020-21, the Sixers went on to become the second team to defend the BBL title. Perth Scorchers then won the following two editions of the BBL before Brisbane Heat won the 2023-24 edition.
