KKR added 10 players in IPL 2024 auction. However, they broke the bank to fetch the services of Mitchell Starc who joined the team for a whopping 24.75 crores.

Gautam Gambhir’s return to KKR as the team mentor was another major news for KKR ahead of IP 2024. They certainly have it in them to make it to the playoffs and possibly win the title. In the last few seasons, they made the playoffs in IPL 2018 and played the final in 2021.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH added six players in the IPL 2024 auction. However, they spent over 20 crores to bat Pat Cummins, the former KKR player. They have also named him the captain ahead of the season.

The challenge for Sunrisers Hyderabad will be to manage their overseas players. They have eight top-class international players who are all senior players in the international teams.

Key Factors 

Pitch Conditions 

The KKR track in the last few years was a batting-friendly wicket. However, Gautam Gambhir marking his return would like to go back to the slow turners that fetched him big success at home during his haydays with the franchise.

By all means The Eden wicket will be a spin-friendly one with KKR spinners Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, Auyash Sharma, and the new joiner Mujeeb Ur Rahman all expected to play a big part. 

Form and Fitness 

The overall form of a few players from both sides is not that good. The Indian layers from both sides did not have too much international cricket under their belt heading into the IPL. 

There are no fitness concerns with SRH. However, Shreyas Iyer’s fitness is a big concern for the KKR management. He was declared fit by the NCA medical team and also by the KKR medical team for the first match of the season. He consulted a spins specialist from Mumbai ahead of joining the franchise who has advised him not to stretch his leg too forward while defending the ball. 

Tactical Acumen

Gautam Gambhir has already started showcasing his tactical acumen as he has asked the pitch curators to prepare sow wickets at home. He is aiming to win all their matches at home.

Pat Cummins being an international captain, his tactical acumen will be an interesting observation. How much Shreyas Iyer learns from Gautam Gambhir will be a good observation too.
