Ahead of the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India skipper Rohit Sharma has opened up on his future in the game as a player.
Speculations are rife that Rohit Sharma as well as Virat Kohli will retire from the shortest format of the game after the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup. Along with Kohli, Rohit Sharma had not played a single T20I last year and many believed that the selectors have moved on.
However, Rohit Sharma was not only recalled to the T20I team but was also named the captain for the World Cup. By the time the next T20 World Cup is played after the forthcoming edition, the right-handed batsman will be almost 40. And while many are expecting him to bring down the curtains on his illustrious T20I career, Rohit Sharma has other plans.
Rohit Sharma's future plans:
Rohit Sharma has made it clear that he has no intention of giving up on T20I cricket yet and wants to make an impact in the game for few more years. He also said that leading Team India 'is the biggest honor' before opening up on his vision for the team as a leader.
"The journey has been wonderful, it has been 17 years; I still hope to play a few more years as well & make an impact in World cricket," Rohit said in the latest interview with Dubai Eye 103.8.
"Captaining your country is the biggest honour that you can have, and for me, I have never thought that this would arrive where I'll be captaining one day. But yeah, people say good things happen to good people.
"When I took over as India Captain, I just wanted everyone to drive in one direction that's how the team sport should be played, it's not about personal milestones & personal stats & goals, it is about what all 11 of us can bring to the table & win the trophy," he added.
Rohit Sharma will be desperate to lead India to glory in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played from June 1 to 29. Last year, he almost led India to the ODI World Cup glory but the Men in Blue suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final. Rohit was a part of the Indian team that won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and would be eyeing a second title.
