BCCI recently sacked the Chetan Sharma selection committee after India’s poor performance in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Sunil Joshi, and Debashish Mohanty were sacked by BCCI after Team India failed to reach the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. India faced a humiliating 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-final.

A selector’s job is a very crucial one for any cricket-playing nation. They have to pick the best players and scout worthy talents for the national team. However, BCCI’s sacking of Chetan Sharma’s selection committee proves that the latter was quite unsuccessful in their job.

3. Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer is the first player on this list. Venkatesh Iyer showed a fabulous performance in the IPL 2021 last year for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Being a hard-hitting opener and a medium pacer bowler, he was seen as a powerful all-rounder for the Indian team.

The left-handed batter also played a few T20I games during the New Zealand tour of India 2021. However, after playing just 9 T20Is and 2 ODI games for India, he was removed from the national side. He scored 24 runs in 2 ODI games and hit 133 runs in 7 T20I innings. He batted at a good average of 33.25 and a strike rate of 162+.

However, he was removed from the national squad and other all-rounders were given a chance. Currently, Varun Chakravarthy, who played for India in January this year, is not considered by selectors in any format.

2. Varun Chakravarthy

Varun Chakravarthy is another player on this list. Chetan Sharma’s selection committee gave a chance to the leg spinner in the national side after his good performances in IPL tournaments. The right-arm spinner was picked in ICC T20 World Cup 2021 last year.

However, with very little international experience, it can be said that he was quite immature for a big tournament. The KKR spinner made his T20I debut in July 2021 and was given a chance in the T20I World Cup 2022 in November 2021.

Chakravarthy could not pick any wicket in the tournament and the Indian team faced a humiliating first-round exit in the tournament. Chakravarthy was never given a chance in the national team post that after playing 6 T20I games for India in that tournament. Currently, Varun Chakravarthy has totally vanished from the national team.

3. T Natarajan

T Natarajan is another such player on this list who became a victim of poor judgment of the Chetan Sharma selection committee. T Natarajan is a left-arm spinner who played his debut international games during India’s tour of Australia 2020-21.

He played in two campaigns, an away tour against Australia and a home series against England. In 1 Test, 2 ODIs, and 4 T20Is, he picked 3, 3, and 7 wickets. He also bowled at a good economy of 7+ in ODIs and T20Is.

Even after his good show, he was never given a chance in the national team post-March 2021. Being a left-arm medium pacer, Natarajan could have emerged as a useful pacer for India. Currently, Natarajan is not considered for the national team.
