3 Indian Players Whose Careers Were Ruined By Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy
3. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is the first player on this list. Ajinkya Rahane was the vice-captain of India in the Test last year. However, after Sharma took over the captaincy, he lost his spot. Later, he was also dropped from the team after a bunch of poor batting shows. The right-handed batsman last played a Test match against South Africa in January when Virat Kohli was the Test skipper.
Rohit Sharma did not play Rahne in any game under his captainship. Ajinkya Rahane, who was once a mandatory player in the Test side, is currently out of the Test team. Hence, the right-handed batsman is one player whose career was affected under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
2. Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer is another player on this list. The left-handed batsman made his international debut last year in November 2021 during a T20I series against New Zealand. He played under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
However, after a few performances in the national team, the all-rounder was ousted from the team. In 9 T20Is, the KKR batsman showed a good performance by smashing 133 runs at an average of 33.25 and a strike rate of 162+. However, Iyer later vanished from the national circuit after a short stint.
1. Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan is another player on this list. After his good performance in IPL 2021, the right-arm pacer made his international debut this year. Khan played 15 T20I games this year after making his debut under skipper Rohit Sharma.
The Lucknow Super Giants pacer has picked 13 wickets in 15 games and 3 wickets in 5 ODIs. He last played in Asia Cup 2022 and after the completion of the tournament, he was not picked for the T20I series against New Zealand. Now, it looks like Khan will have a hard time returning to the national team.
