BCCI on Friday announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final. India will face New Zealand in the World Test Champion final in England. The Test match will commence on June 18, 2021. Both the teams emerged as the top performers during the World Test Championship, a tournament that witnessed many bilateral series among top Test-playing nations from 2019 till now.

In the Indian squad, most of the players are those who were part of India’s last two-Test series against England and Australia. Shubman Gill, Hanuma Virari, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav are some notable players who have managed to make it to the squad.

Rishabh Pant has also made it to the squad as wicket-keeper while keepers KL Rahul and Wriddhiman Saha are also part of the squad. However, there are some players who should have also made it to India’s squad for the ICC World Test Championship final. Here we talk about 3 such players.

3 Players Who Should Have Been In The Squad For The ICC World Test Championship Final

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one bowler who should have been part of India’s squad for the ICC World Test Championship final. Kumar has been in an amazing form recently. He showed spectacular performance against England in the T20I and ODI series recently. Kumar was out of action for several months after suffering an injury during IPL 2020 last year in October.

However, the right-arm pacer made a great comeback against England. In the ODI series, he scalped 6 wickets in three matches. In the T20I series, Bhuvi bagged 4 wickets in 5 games and bowled with a great economy. Kumar would have given great support to India’s leading pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami in the ICC World Test Championship final.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw did not make it to the squad for the ICC World Test Championship final. He is another player who should have been part of the Indian squad. Last year, Shubman Gill was given a chance in the Test series against Australia after Prithvi Shaw failed to impress. Prithvi Shaw suffered from his batting form during last year.

However, he made a strong comeback from the start of this year which was visible during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 and IPL 2021. If we take a look at the batting of Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw in IPL 2021, the latter was far better with the bat. So, Shaw would have been a good choice for the opener in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya, a brilliant all-rounder for India, was also dropped from the Indian squad for the World Test Championship final against England. In the current squad, India have only one full-time all-rounder in the form of Ravindra Jadeja. Hardik Pandya would have been useful as a backup all-rounder in the squad.

Hardik Pandya played some wonderful knocks against England in the T20I and ODI series recently. Moreover, he also played some incredible knocks against Australia last year in the ODI and T20I series.
