3 Reasons Why India Will Lose the 2023 ODI World Cup
3. Confusion Over Openers

India has a different set of openers in all three formats. While Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan open the innings in ODIs, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul take the opening slot in T20Is. In Tests, it is mostly KL Rahul or Shubman Gill taking the openers’ slot with Rohit Sharma.
While Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are the openers in ODIs, there are very few games when both of them bat with each other in the opening slots. Due to work pressure, many times Rohit Sharma is absent from the ODI series and Shikhar Dhawan opens the innings with other players.

While Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are a powerful set of openers, it is also to be noted that they have crossed 35 years of age. Hence, they are not in the youngsters’ category. Moreover, due to the good performance of youngsters like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan as openers, there is little confusion over who would be the best opening pair for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Inexperienced Pace Attack

For India, some powerful pacers in the team are Arshdeep Singh, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Bhuvneswar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami. While some of these are experienced pacers, some others are too young and have less experience.

Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are senior pacers and owns a lot of experience. However, they have failed in earlier ICC tournaments. Young pacers like Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Deepak Chahar owns very less experience currently in ODIs and they might not be powerful enough to attack the opposition next year during the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.
Powerful Spinners

While India definitely has some powerful spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi among others, the Indian team fails to rely on the powerful spinner during ICC tournaments. While Yuzvendra Chahal gave a good performance throughout this year, he failed to deliver a few months before the T20 World Cup 2022.

Kuldeep Yadav is also an experienced spinner for the team but he misses a lot of matches due to fitness issues. Moreover, selectors also seek to induct some spin all-rounders into the team during ICC tournaments. But the idea does not help the team to a great extent; something which was seen in ICC T20 World 2022 this year.
Hence, India needs some powerful spinners who will come up with an impeccable performance during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India next year.
