1. Kuldeep Yadav:
The left-arm chinaman from India had a terrific run in 2023. He took 49 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 20.49. Kuldeep Yadav took three four-wicket hauls in 2023 which also includes a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 where he took a figure of 5/25 rattling the Pakistani batters. His other two four-wicket hauls were against West Indies and Sri Lanka. Kuldeep Yadav made a terrific comeback after being out of the squad for the past couple of years.
2. Mohammed Siraj:
Mohammed Siraj comes second on the list of highest wicket-takers in 2023 in ODIs. He took 44 wickets in 25 matches at an average of 20.68. He was the Player of The Match in the Asia Cup finals where he took a figure of 6/21 against Sri Lanka at the R Premdasa stadium. He took a total of three four-wicket hauls in the year, the other two four-wicket hauls coming against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in India.
3. Mohammed Shami:
The Indian pacer had a terrific 2023, especially in the ODI World Cup where he was at his destructive best taking 24 wickets in just seven games. Mohammed Shami took 43 wickets in just 19 games at a phenomenal average of 16.47. He has the best average among players who have played more than 15 ODI games in 2023. Shami had a stellar year with four five-wicket hauls to his name in the ODI format with a best figure of 7/57 against New Zealand which came in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
4. Sandeep Lamichhane:
The Nepali leg-spinner is the only addition from the country in the top five. Sandeep Lamichhane took 43 wickets in 21 matches at an average of 22.05. He and Mohammed Shami both took 43 wickets in 2023 but Shami had a better average which gave him the third spot. Sandeep Lamichhane took three four-wicket hauls in 2023 which also included a five-wicket haul against Papua New Guinea where he took a figure of 5/25.
5. Shaheen Shah Afridi:
The only left-arm pacer in the list, Shaheen Shah Afridi had a decent 2023 with the ball. Leaving his ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 performance aside, he was good with the ball in his hand. Shaheen Afridi took 42 wickets in 21 matches in 2023 at an average of 24.05. He took two four-wicket hauls in 2023 which included a five-wicket haul against Australia in the World Cup where he took a figure of 5/54. His other four-wicket haul was against India in the Asia Cup.
