IPL 2025 was the centre of certain memorable performances from young players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Ayush Mhatre. On the other hand, it also saw a few experienced players struggling to get going. In this article, we will look at 5 Indian Players Who Can Retire From T20Is after IPL 2025.
5 Indian Players Who Can Retire From T20Is After IPL 2025
5. Ishant Sharma
The fast bowler is in the final stages of his career and looked out of touch in IPL 2025 with the ball. It also appeared that Ishant lacked the fitness to bowl at full tilt.
Interestingly, Ishant Sharma, who made his international debut in 2007 and last played a T20I for India in 2013, has not yet officially retired from T20Is.
With a bunch of youngsters coming in, it can be a logical move for Ishant Sharma to announce his retirement from T20I cricket.
4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar, who bowled well for the IPL 2025 champions RCB, has a very slim chance of making a comeback in India's T20I team.
Although Bhuneshwar has been performing consistently in the IPL, it looks like he is not on the radar of the selectors, and they are looking to rope in young blood in the form of Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna.
The fast bowler made his last T20I appearance for India in 2022 during the series against New Zealand.
Bhuvaneshwar might continue to play in the IPL, but it seems like his time as a T20I player is all but over.
3. Ajinkya Rahane
KKR's captain for IPL 2025, Ajinkya Rahane, was the only batter who showed some resistance in an otherwise poor batting performance throughout the season.
Having said that, Rahane might decide to retire from T20Is, given the current scenario where he is out of contention for India's white-ball setup.
Rahane last played a T20I match for India back in 2016 against the West Indies.
2. Vijay Shankar
The fast-bowling all-rounder who last played for India in the 2019 ODI World Cup might contemplate retiring from T20I cricket, having not gotten a chance for a long time.
Shankar, who came in as a like-for-like replacement for Hardik Pandya for the ODI leg of India's tour of Australia in 2018-19, has fallen behind in the pecking order with the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy being preferred as a backup player.
Also, the fact that Hardik has started bowling again and has regained his full fitness goes against the chances of Shankar making a comeback.
1. Deepak Hooda
One of the few batters for India who has a T20I century registered against his name, Deepak Hooda's stock has fallen due to the string of low scores after the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Hooda, who last featured in a T20I game for India against New Zealand, may consider retiring from T20Is.
