Kolkata Knight Riders over the years have invested in players whom they have released earlier than expected. The franchise is the third-most successful in the history of the competition after Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
KKR made it to the finals of the IPL 2021 losing out to CSK in the final. The franchise has retained Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions.

Kolkata Knight Riders – 5 Lesser-Known Players To Play For The Side
Sanju Samson

Samson has made a name for himself playing in the IPL for the Rajasthan Royals. He was nominated as the skipper of the season and was even retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
KKR bagged Samson for IPL 2012 but as it turned out, he did not play a game for the franchise. It was in 2013 that he made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals, an association that is still ongoing.

Siddharth Kaul

Siddarth Kaul was part of the KKR dugout in 2008, but he never got a single game to showcase his skills. He spent a single season for them before he was released.
He made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2013. However, he failed to live up to expectations when he was given a chance to play picking up just 6 wickets from 11 games during his stint. Since then he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad who released him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Shane Bond

The Kiwi pacer played a solitary season for the Knight Riders and then went into oblivion. He had a decent performance with the ball taking a total of nine wickets in the eight matches with an average of 24.88. Fitness issues forced him to announce his retirement. Bond now is associated with Mumbai Indians as the bowling coach of the franchise.
Brad Hodge

The Australian cricketer was once a key player in the KKR outfit. Hew played just three games in 2008. It was in 2009 that he made a mark for the franchise scoring 365 runs at an average of 40.55 in 12 games.
The overseas player rule in the playing XI meant that Hodge did not get as many opportunities as he should have. he also played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Rajasthan Royals before retiring from the IPL.
Mohammed Shami

Shami started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2012. He was a part of the squad that won their maiden IPL title that year. He spent two years with KKR and took just a single wicket in a total of 11 games for them. He was released ahead of the 2014 season when he joined Delhi Capitals. He stayed with the franchise till 2018 before moving to Punjab Kings in 2019. The franchise released him as well ahead of the mega auctions.
