Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history when KKR bought him for 24.75 crores. The move from KKR was all of a sudden as they decided to break the bank on him.

The move worked out perfectly as he finished with 17 wickets and played his part in helping the Kolkata Knight Riders win their third IPL title.

PL 2025 will see some rule changes and also the mega auction once the new rules are finalized by the BCCI. In the recent meeting between the IPL owners and the BCCI, the franchises gave their opinions and suggestions.

The number of retentions was one hugely debated topic and the BCCI said that they will weigh in on the suggestions and come out with a decision by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, New Zealand have been a country that has invested heavily in sending their players to play in the IPL.

The likes of Trent Boult and Devon Conway are prime examples of players who have succeded in playing the IPL. It was a certain Brendon McCullum who kickstarted the league with an unbeaten 158 to set it alight.

In this article, we predict five Kiwi cricketers who can break Mitchell Starc's record of being the most expensive player in IPL history.

5 New Zealand Players Who Can Break Mitchell Starc's Record Of Being The Highest-Paid Player In IPL Auction

Finn Allen

The young Kiwi opener has played for RCB in the past. However, the franchise has not given him consistent opportunities.

With the mega auction coming up, several franchises will be on the lookout for an out-and-out basher at the top and Allen fits the bill perfectly. Several franchises might break the bank on him.

Trent Boult

Boult finished with 16 wickets in IPL 2024. He is a part of the core of Rajasthan Royals and their success since 2022. He has repeatedly taken wickets inside the powerplay last season and bowled crucial overs as well.

Having given up on the central contract of the New Zealand side after the ODI World Cup, Boult is a freelancer T20 cricketer. With his match-winning attributes as a bowler, he can become the most expensive player in IPL history.

Lockie Ferguson

Ferguson bowls with express pace something that franchises have always invested in. Bowling fast is in his DNA and he has done that day in and day out in the league.

He has played for KKR, Gujarat Titans, and most recently for RCB. With franchises needing good bowlers, Lockie can be one of the contenders for the most expensive players.

Kane Williamson

Williamson has proven success in the IPL as a player and captain with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He is a very good T20 player and the captain of the New Zealand sides across formats.

He missed IPL 2023 due to a knee injury and did not get many chances in IPL 2024 due to a settled top-order at GT. With several franchises looking for a new captain, Kane's stock might rise.

Rachin Ravindra

Ravindra is the final player in this list who can go the distance in the upcoming mega auction. CSK roped him in for 1.8 crores and he was a steal for that price. He scored 222 runs in his maiden IPL season and has displayed good qualities as an opener.

He has a good technique and a good head on his shoulders. That he can bowl his left-arm spin makes him a utility cricketer who will push franchises to invest in him.
