Mitchell Starc became the most expensive IPL player when Kolkata Knight Riders shelled out 24.75 crores in the IPL 2024 auction. Starc took 17 wickets and played his part in KKR winning their third IPL title.
In the same IPL auction, Pat Cummins was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 20.50 Crores. He led the franchise and took them to the final of the season unfortunately losing out to the Knight Riders.
The IPL owners invested in the winning mentality of the Australian players, The big example of it was the 2023 ODI World Cup final when Australia managed to end India's unbeaten run in the World Cup.
Several rule changes are expected ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. In the recent meeting between the IPL owners and the BCCI, several suggestions were put forward by different franchises.
The BCCI in response has said that they will review the suggestions and come out with a decision by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, overseas players are a big part of the IPL. Several reputed players have made their T20I carers using IPL performances as the benchmark.

Topping in this list is Nicholas Pooran. He scored 499 runs in the previous IPL season for the Lucknow Super Giants. He has played for teams like Punjab Kings and SRH but has replicated his best for the Super Giants.
With KL Rahul expected to leave LSG, Pooran can be a good option as captain as he has led T20I teams across franchises. However, if he is released by LSG, he can end up as the highest-paid player in the league. SRH paid 10.75 crores to him in IPL 2022 and LSG roped him in for 16 crores in IPL 2023.
Rovman Powell
The West Indies T20I skipper played for the Rajasthan Royals. The franchise paid 7.40 crores to get him into the squad. He batted lower down the order for the franchise which is why his batting potential never came out in full throttle.
He is likely to be released by the Royals which now allows other franchises to bid for him and make him the most expensive IPL player.
Kyle Mayers
Mayers is a batting all-rounder. His best in the IPL came for LSG in IPL 2023 when he scored 379 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 144.11 with 38 fours and 22 sixes.
He replaced Quinton De Kock in the XI and was able to keep him on the bench with his consistency with the bat.
Shamar Joseph
Shamar Joseph came into the spotlight in international cricket after bowling West Indies to a Test tin against Australia at The Gabba. His express pace was able to get him an IPL contract with LSG as they named him a replacement for Mark Wood before the IPL season started.
Pace is always a great asset for any fast bowler. Several franchises are on the lookout for an express pacer in the IPL 2025 mega auction where they are looking to build the team from scratch. This is where Joseph can fetch the big money.
Shimron Hetmyer
Hetmyer is the last player on this list who can fetch the big bucks in the IPL mega auction. He is a lower-order hitter currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals.
He is a specialist in the format and hence is a good candidate for franchises to go big for him. It will be interesting to see if Rajasthan Royals eventually release him.
