The Punjab Kings are currently at the top of the order and have dominated the IPL 2026 season with the bat. They have shown some sheer ability with the bat, having chased scores of 265, breaking their own record from former seasons.

However, since the last game they have lost their winning streak after the defeat to the Rajasthan Royals in their last home game of the season. To regain their winning streak, they clashed against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, after being sent in to bat first, the Punjab Kings batters struggled against the onslaught from the GT pacers. Mohammed Siraj's accuracy and Kagiso Rabada's raw pace troubled them, while Jason Holder once again turned out to be their key man.

PBKS fans go berserk after a display of spectacular ball striking from Suryansh Shedge

Just when PBKS needed someone to fire in after the early fall of wickets. Suryansh Sedge, the Mumbai lower-order batter who was picked by Ricky Ponting in the mega-auction but failed to perform last season, stepped up for the Kings.

He played a spectacular hand, scoring a half-century after the Kings were five down at one stage with just 47 runs on the board, and contributed to a promising sixth-wicket partnership alongside Marcus Stoinis.

Shedge took Manav Suthar, the Indian spinner, for 26 runs in the 14th over of the game. This added some momentum to the side as the batter launched him for three sixes and two fours, displaying some stunning band of ball-striking.

Kagiso Rabada strikes back with Suryansh Shedge's wicket

Suryanash Shedge's innings could be the only difference for the Punjab Kings when they come out to bowl. The young batter has been doing this over several seasons for the Mumbai team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, but this marked his first major impact in the IPL.

Rabada has been back to his very best with the ball this season, as he has hit the deck hard and has been delivering with some raw pace, which has now lifted him to the third position on the purple cap leaderboard.

After having already bowled a splendid spell in the powerplay, Rabada returned for his second strike in the game. Though smashed for a six by Shegde off the first ball, he bounced back, bowled some dots, and dismissed him by the end of the over.

Punjab Kings restricted to 163 with Jason Holder's double-strike in the death overs

The Punjab Kings were restricted to a score of just 163, the lowest by the standards they have set in this edition of the competition. Having amassed 200+ runs on every occasion they have entered the ground, this seemed to be an insult to Punjab's batting depth.

Jason Holder played the most promising role with the ball, despite Siraj striking against the top 3 alongside Rabada, who dismissed Prabhsimran Singh by the end of the powerplay. Holder broke the backbone of the PBKS middle order, with the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, and Xavier Bartlett.

Stoinis' dismissal at the death changed the momentum of the game, when the player could have single-handedly taken the game away from the Titans with some stupendous show with the bat.
