The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 has concluded, with the India Women’s National Cricket Team winning the match against the Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team by 72 runs last Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai. However, after the match, they were not handed the trophy as they refused to receive it from Moshin Naqvi. Former India batter Aakash Chopra has broken his silence on the matter.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side won the record 8th trophy after beating Sri Lanka, but just like the Men’s team last year, they did not receive the trophy similarly, as they refused to take it from the hands of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi due to the diplomatic tensions between the countries.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Aakash Chopra slammed Naqvi for taking away the trophy. He mentioned about women’s team has won the trophy eight times, and once they did not receive the trophy. He took a swipe at Naqvi, saying that every time he runs away with the trophy.
"Indian women have become Asia Cup champions for the eighth time. But once again, they haven't received the trophy. The men's team didn't get the trophy either. You know why, right? Mohsin Naqvi came along. Whenever he comes, he runs away with the trophy. The Indian team doesn't take the trophy from him. And we all know it," Chopra said.
Aakash Chopra questions why BCCI is not taking action against Mohsin Naqvi
Aakash Chopra also believes that India should not play the Asia Cup if these things happen repeatedly; this is the second time it has happened in the span of less than a year. He wants a solution to the matter and indirectly asks why the BCCI cannot, and the ICC cannot, find a solution to this matter.
"We knew that India had won eight out of 10 tournaments. So we already knew that India was going to win this tournament. Then how did we end up here? I still can't understand why we can't figure out something. If this is going to happen again and again, why do we even play the Asia Cup?" Aakash Chopra added.
Will Mohsin Naqvi get another term as ACC chairman?
There have been reports from PIT that Mohsin Naqvi might not be elected as the chairman for the next term after his tenure ends in April 2027. With the fiasco that has been going on since the last Asia Cup, he might not get votes to be re-elected as the chairman of the ACC.
Thus, the BCCI is also not doing anything; it is believed that Naqvi certainly will not get another term, and he won't get any support from other ACC members due to the worsening of the relationship between India and Pakistan since the Asia Cup 2025, as the customary handshakes between both sides have also been stopped after the Pahalgam terror attack.
India dominates the Asia Cup final
Coming to the game, India started well after winning the toss, as Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a solid start, scoring 129 runs for the first wicket, and posted 183/5 in 20 overs.
While chasing, Sri Lanka had a decent start, but they kept losing wickets and were bowled out for 111 runs on the final ball of the 20th over.
