Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra believes Rishabh Pant should continue as the keeper-batsman in the limited-overs series against England among the likes of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Rishabh Pant’s recent form with the bat and the gloves had earned him a spot back in the Indian limited-overs setup after getting dropped from the squad in 2020 owing to poor form.
Rishabh Pant finished as the highest run-getter for India in the Australia test tour and played a huge role in the series win down under. He continued his form in the first Test against England and hit three consecutive sixes of Jack Leach in an over.
His shot selection has become so precise and he does not know what he’s doing now. His batting efforts led to an increase in confidence behind the stumps as he improved his wicket-keeping skills massively.
“It’ll Be Good For The Team” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra opined that India should play Pant as the keeper-batsman in the limited-overs series and relieve Rahul of the keeping duties. Ishan Kishan is most likely to wait for his opportunity and he might get a game at the end of the tour. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are both match-winners on their own, and India will have a headache picking their playing XI for the first T20.
“Rishabh Pant has made a comeback and I think he will play. You should play him in T20s, let him keep wickets instead of KL Rahul. It’ll be good for the team,” said Aakash Chopra in his YouTube channel.
Aakash Chopra Lauds Ishan Kishan’s Performances
Aakash Chopra praised Ishan Kishan for his brilliance recently in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored 173 off just 94 deliveries. Ishan Kishan was among the top run-getters in the previous edition of IPL and was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians. He was constantly knocking on the selector’s door and now has reaped rewards for his success.
Rahul Tewatia and Surya Kumar Yadav are the other names to have earned a maiden call-up to the Indian team.
