Legendary Australian cricketer Ian Healy feels that the Australian white-ball captain Aaron Finch’s numbers are not good enough for him to stay in the T20I team.

The 35-year-old opening batsman Finch performed extremely poor in the five-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. He managed to score just 78 runs in the series, where Australia won by 4-1.

Meanwhile, former wicketkeeper-batsman Ian Healy has criticised Finch for his poor performance in the series.

Speaking on SENQ’s Pat and Heals he said: “Finchy’s numbers do not demand him being in that team. It’s not good enough.”

He added that Finch has been out of form for a very long time and he has lost his power-hitting abilities and he bats much more conservatively.

The last three years he’s been through at least two really low periods where he can’t get a run,” said Healy.

“He’s much more conservative in his intentions now, and he’s not the all-out thrashing machine that Aaron Finch has always been.”

Several cricket pundits have raised questions over captain Finch’s position in the T20I team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be played in Australia.

I think Steve Smith has work to do to justify his position in the T20 team – Ian Healy

Former Australian player also questioned Test vice-captain Steve Smith’s position in the T20 International team. Healy opined that Smith has a lot of work to do to justify his place in the Australian T20 International team.

“I think Steve Smith has work to do to justify his position in the T20 team too. We’ve got to get fair dinkum about our T20 team.”

Healy further added that the players like Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Wade, who have performed well in T20Is, should not be left out just to include Smith in the team.
