After Inda's win, Abhishek Sharma, Yuraj Singh's student in many ways congratulated his mentor on leading the team to victory. The final was played on Saturday, January 13 when India played the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe.

“We all saw the actually four five of us saw the finals yesterday. It was like one of the moments. It’s always special when you’re playing against Pakistan and again it was the final. So, I think a big congratulations to my mentor (Yuvraj),” Abhishek told Sony Sports Network in a post-match interview.

Speaking about Abhishek Sharma. he finished with 124 runs in the series and two wickets. He scored his maiden T20I ton after scoring a duck in his T20I debut for India. In the next two T20Is, he scored just 24. Thus the series was a mixed bag for the southpaw. The move to slot him at three after opening in the first two games backfired for him.

The southpaw was selected for the Indian squad based on his recent IPL 2024 performance. He scored 484 runs from 16 innings at an average of 32.26 and a strike rate of 204.21. He and Travis Head redefined T20 batting for Sunrisers Hyderabad who reached the final but lost out to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Both Head and Abhishek had a big role to play in their success as a franchise this season.

Abhishek Sharma spoke to the broadcasters after the match and spoke about his experience of playing in the series. He spoke about the team regrouping after the first T20I loss and also thanked his coach and the captain for trusting in his all-round abilities.

After The First Game, We All Woke Up: Abhishek Sharma

"Last few games it was pretty good for bowling and as Riyan said after the 1st game we all woke up. Positive was the next match was the next day so we did not think have time to think too much. We were talking about this in the IPL, if we get our caps it will be a dream come true. We never thought we would debut together. We spoke about it long back and it happened. Special mention to Shubman and coaches for trusting in my bowling after the first two games" said Sharma.

Team India will next play a three-match T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanks between July 26-August 7. The T20I matches will be played in Pallekele while the ODIs in Colombo. It will be interesting to see if Abhishek Sharma is picked for the series.
