Former Zimbabwe cricketer Tino Mawoyo has praised Abhishek Sharma for his remarkable comeback after a poor start to his international career during the recent five-match T20I series between India and Zimbabwe.

The young opener faced a setback with a duck on his India debut in Harare. However, Abhishek displayed immense courage and aggressive batting in the next T20I match against Zimbabwe.

After failing to open his account in the five-match T20I series opener, the 23-year-old batter played a remarkable knock of 100 off just 47 balls in the second game, proving his potential in the international arena.

Well, the Punjab lad could manage only 10 and 14 runs in his remaining two outings in the T20I series against Zimbabwe. However, the Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team managed to clinch the series by a 4-1 margin by winning the final T20I by 42 runs against Zimbabwe on July 14 in Harare.

Sharing his thoughts on Abhishek’s performance in the debut series, Mawoyo highlighted the young Indian batting all-rounder’s impressive turnaround. He noted that the explosive opener looked uncomfortable and out of place during his debut match, but he displayed exceptional courage and skill in the next match against Zimbabwe.

Mawoyo stressed that such a resilient comeback after a poor start is praiseworthy and shows his potential for a bright future in Indian cricket. The Zimbabwean predicted that Abhishek will be a valuable asset for the Indian cricket team, and he is looking forward to seeing him shine brightly in blue.

Tino Mawoyo was quoted as saying by Sony Sports: “I think it was even more exciting because of the way the first innings went. He really looked all out of sorts. He looked uncomfortable. He looked out of place but the way he came out in the second T20I and played the game that he knows, it takes a lot of courage to be able to do that when you have failed.”

Mawoyo added, “I thought that was outstanding for him. A whirlwind start to his T20I career and you can see that he is one guy we can look forward to seeing playing many, many innings in the blue of India.”

I don't want him to change anything: Abhinav Mukund on Abhishek Sharma

Meanwhile, Abhinav Mukund also hailed Abhishek and suggested the youngster avoid making any changes to his game. He said that players like Abhishek can single-handedly win matches for their teams, saying such players can be frustrating in terms of their shot-making.

Mukund said on Sony Sports: “I don't want him to change anything. It's just exciting to see a young player come and smash sixes and fours and get to a 47-ball 100. These are the kind of players that are going to win you games single-handedly. They might end up frustrating you sometimes with a shot that may not be on in that particular situation.”
