India face New Zealand in the showdown for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Kiwis won the toss and elected to field first. They made one change, bringing in Jacob Duffy in place of Cole McConchie. It was a tricky change for the side as India had five left-handers in the side.
The Men in Blue started the game brilliantly, as skipper Suryakumar Yadav was looking to bat first. They were off to a flying start with openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, scoring over 15 an over. The batters got some luck with two outside edges flying over to the boundaries. However, India scored 60 runs off three overs, after a careful first two overs start.
India post highest ever powerplay score
Sanju Samson, who was in excellent form in the tournament, was joined by the firepower of Abhishek Sharma in this game. They scored 92/0 off the powerplay and smashed every bowler out of the park.
Highest-ever powerplay score

| 92/1 | WI vs AFG | Bridgetown | 2024 |

| 89/3 | ENG vs SA | Mumbai WS | 2016 |
| 86/1 | IND vs NAM | Delhi | 2026 |
After this score, both openers etched their names in the history books, as India made the highest ever powerplay score in the history of the World Cup, and it is also the highest powerplay score in this edition of the competition as well. Previously, the West Indies had scored 92/1 against Afghanistan in the previous edition of the World Cup.
Abhishek Sharma started the carnage
Abhishek Sharma, what a place and time, the Southpaw chose to score his second half-century of the competition. He was having a lean patch throughout the tournament, but he chose the right occasion to bring back his form and gave the start to the Indian side. The Southpaw has been dismissed on the score of 52 off 21, hitting three sixes and doubling the number of fours.
India are on the score of 204/4 at the end of 16 overs, with Sanju and Ishan Kishan have not stopped firing and have been smashing the Kiwi bowlers. India are looking for another 250+ score on the night, with 9 wickets in hand and having the depth in their batting.
Sanju Samson yet again is the star for India
Sanju has been dismissed at the score of 89 off 46 balls, and Kishan has also been dismissed on the score of 54 off 25 balls in the same over, with Jimmy Neesham giving two breakthroughs. Neesham has been the best bowler for the side tonight with two wickets so far, as he gave just one run in the 16th over.
Sanju has scored the highest-ever individual score in a T20 World Cup final. India are already over 200 run mark, and it is already the highest ever team total in a final of the T20 World Cup.
India has been a bit at the backfoot, as they have finished their score of 255/5 with five balls left. The Kiwis made a small comeback; however, a 24-run, off Neesham in the final over, helped them score the third-highest ever score in a T20 World Cup. Shivam Dube’s cameo of 26 off 8 balls was sensational to watch.
