Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and opener Imam-ul-Haq were hurled abuses by Afghanistan pacer Fareed Ahmad after the second ODI as per reports in Samaa News. Notably, Fareed Ahmad is the same player who had a tussle with Asif Ali in the Asia Cup 2022 match last year. Pakistan won the match in a dramatic fashion with Naseem Shah hitting a boundary with his team requiring three off two balls.
The win helped Pakistan maintain their unbeaten record against Afghanistan in ODIs. Naseem Shah recreated his Asia Cup 2022 heroics in the second ODI as he almost single-handedly took Afghanistan down in the final overs.
There was tension in both the camps after the end of the game with Shaheen Afridi refusing to shake hands with the Afghanistan players. They expressed great displeasure on Fazalhaq Farooqi mankading Shadab Khan to run him out in the final over.

The way Shadab was run out especially angered Shaheen Afridi to the extent that he was asked to calm down by the Pakistan team management. Chasing 301 to win, Pakistan won the match in the penultimate delivery of their innings shattering the chances of Afghanistan’s maiden ODI win over Pakistan.
“All credit to boys. When we’re starting with the bat, we just tried to get partnerships. Just wanted to see after 40 overs where we stand. Had the quality of batting later on. In crunch situations, Naseem has performed well. Always have to improve in cricket. You’re never satisfied. Have to play the natural game. Looking forward to the last match. Looking to carry the momentum” said Pakistan skipper Babar after the match.
Meanwhile, both teams are playing the third and final ODI in Colombo on Friday. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. They were bowled out for 268 despite a 110-run stand between Babar (60) and Rizwan (67) for the third wicket. Afghanistan now need to score 269 to win their first-ever ODI against Pakistan.
