The Sri Lankan team faced another injury setback as fast bowler Lahiru Kumara has been ruled out for the remainder of the ICC World Cup 2023 due to injury. Dushmantha Chameera, a reserve player, has replaced Lahiru Kumara in Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad.
Lahiru Kumara sustained a left thigh injury during training in Pune before the crucial match against Afghanistan at MCA International Stadium. On Sunday, the Event Technical Committee approved Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for Kumara in the squad.
Lahiru Kumara Named Player Of The Match Against England
Lahiru Kumara played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s convincing 8-wicket victory against England in their last match in Bengaluru on October 26. The right-arm pacer was a standout bowler for his team in the match, picking up three wickets for 35 runs in his seven overs.
The 26-year-old displayed impressive skill, with the ball swinging both ways, showcasing his prowess in the match. He was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional performance, helping his team register their second consecutive victory in the World Cup.

Dushmantha Chameera has been officially approved as a replacement for Lahiru Kumara in the Sri Lanka squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket.
“Chameera approved as replacement for Kumara in Sri Lanka squad. The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for Lahiru Kumara in the Sri Lanka squad,” Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted.

Chameera suffered an injury before the start of the tournament and was unavailable for selection. However, he regained full fitness and was added as a reserve player. He has taken 50 wickets in 44 ODIs at an average of 33.16, with the best figures of 5/16.
Sri Lanka made three changes to their squad during the tournament, including Chameera’s inclusion. Earlier, Chamika Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews were roped into the team due to injuries to skipper Dasun Shanaka and young fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.
